DOTHAN, Ala. — Trever Kilcrease pitched a three-hitter and preserved his shutout with some clutch pitching in the bottom of the ninth inning as Gulf Coast defeated Wallace Dothan 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon in junior college baseball.

The Commodores improved to 11-7 as Kilcrease moved to 3-1 with his fourth consecutive strong showing on the mound. Entering the bottom of the ninth he had allowed only two hits, both to Rutherford graduate Ryan Leno, while cruising through eight innings.

Parker Stephens opened Dothan’s ninth with a double, however, and Mitch McLendon reached on Gulf Coast’s only error to put runners on the corners with nobody out.

Although McLendon also advanced into scoring position, Kilcrease retired Nick Lewis and Oraj Anu and made Tanner Frabott his 12th strikeout victim to end the game.

The Commodores had 10 hits against the Governors, 9-6. Jared Shemper went six innings and took the loss. Mosley graduate Nicky Agosto finished and pitched out of a bases loaded, one-out situation in the seventh.

Gulf Coast did push across two unearned runs against Agosto in the top of the ninth.

Jacquez Koonce had three hits and Brett Wisely two for the Commodores. Jeff Omohundro knocked in two runs as Gulf Coast took a 2-0 lead in the second and Cory Heffron added an RBI. The Commodores led 4-0 by the fourth inning and Kilcrease took it from there.

Gulf Coast returns home to host Wallace Dothan in a single game 4 p.m. Thursday at Frazier Field.
