Gulf Coast returns home to host Chipola

The News Herald

The Gulf Coast baseball team will be back in action Thursday at Frazier Field, as the Commodores play host to Chipola at 5 p.m.

The Commodores (21-15 overall, 3-9 in the Panhandle Conference) most recently snapped a four-game losing skid with an 8-3 road win over Tallahassee on Tuesday, while Chipola (22-12, 9-3) broke up a run of three straight losses with a 2-0 victory over first-place Northwest Florida State on Tuesday.

Thursday’s game is the first of a four-game series that continues Saturday with a doubleheader in Marianna and concludes back at Frazier Field on Tuesday. This will be the last four-game series of the season for the Commodores before finishing the league schedule with four straight two-game sets.

Chipola is currently alone in second place in the Panhandle standings behind Northwest Florida State (13-3 in conference), though the Indians are tied in the loss column. The Commodores are looking to get out of a tie for last place with Pensacola State.

The Lady Commodores (32-14, 9-7) won’t be back in action until Saturday when they hit the road to face last place Tallahassee (16-27, 3-11). Gulf Coast swept a doubleheader with the Lady Eagles in Panama City on March 25 by scores of 11-3 and 9-0.

Gulf Coast most recently split a doubleheader with Pensacola State on Tuesday, dropping the first game 6-1 before winning the second 15-0 in five innings.

That was the final doubleheader of the season for the Lady Commodores, who will play single games against the other four Panhandle teams to close out the regular season.
