Gulf Coast sweeps Santa Fe

The News Herald

PANAMA CITY — The Gulf Coast baseball team swept a doubleheader over Santa Fe on Saturday afternoon at Frazier Field, making it three wins in a row and improving to 11-6 on the season.

Pitching paced the Commodores in a 1-0 victory to start the day, as Brett Wisely tossed a seven-inning shutout with six strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no walks.

Brycen Braswell delivered all the offense Gulf Coast needed with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. Wisely added a triple, while Stevie Moffatt, Justin Kelley, and Reid Halfacre all had a hit each.

Gulf Coast overcame a 4-1 deficit in the second game to take a 6-5 win, scoring single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to go ahead for good.

Hunter Milam started on the mound and went four innings while allowing five runs — three earned — on seven hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. But it was Weston Bizzle who got the decision for three scoreless innings of relief with one hit and two walks with five strikeouts.

Halfacre had a team-best three hits offensively, with Wisely adding two hits and two RBI. Moffatt picked up two hits and scored two runs, while Kelley added a solo home run.

Gulf Coast will play another doubleheader Tuesday on the road against Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette.
