Jon Wade sparked a second-half resurgence and Gulf Coast downed Pasco-Hernando 72-57 Friday afternoon in a men's junior college basketball game played at Northwest Florida State College.

The Gulf Coast Lady Commodores remained unbeaten with a 98-56 win over Broward in Miami to improve 6-0.

Wade, a Rutherford graduate, poured in 21 points as Gulf Coast's men expanded a precarious 29-28 halftime lead to improve to 5-3.

"In the second half we came out and played with some urgency and toughness," GC head coach Jay Powell said. "Emotionally we were led by Jon Wade.  He did a nice job picking it up and the other men followed.  He's our only sophomore starter right now."

Elliott Cole added 13 points and DeMario Beck had eight points and eight rebounds.  Also contributing in every offensive category was Cobe Goosby, who had seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Leading the third-ranked Lady Commodores was Chelsey Gibson with 28 points.  Kristina King had 21 in a balanced scoring output, Kiara Phillips had 12 and Rochelle Vasquez 10.

Like the men, GC'S women's team also turned up intensity in the second half.

"Second half yes, first half no," head coach Roonie Scovel said.  "We were pretty sloppy in the first half, lots of fouls, but pretty good in the second half."

The Lady Commodores play a second game in South Florida this morning against Miami Dade at 11 a.m. The men return to NWFS and take on Clinton College at 3:30 p.m.
