GC women, men get victories

The Gulf Coast men’s and women’s basketball teams each picked up victories away from home Friday evening, with the men defeating Georgia Highlands 65-63 in Marianna and the Lady Commodores routing Broward 85-

58 in Jacksonville.

 

The top-ranked Gulf Coast women improved to 7-0 on the season and will play Palm Beach on Saturday in Jacksonville. Shayla Bennett scored 35 points on 6 of 11 from the 3-point line to lead all scorers, with Kionna Jeter adding 24 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Jhileiya Dunlap had 19 points, nine rebounds, and

two blocked shots.

 

Margarita Pleskevich led Broward with 15 points, followed by Pemilla Sorenson with 12, and Claudia Charles with eight. Gulf Coast trailed 25-15 after one quarter but stormed back with a 23-7 second quarter to take a six-point lead into the halftime break. The Lady Commodores blew the game open in the fourth quarter by outscoring Broward 25-7.

 

Marlon Adams led the Gulf Coast men with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Will Robinson added 12 and seven rebounds. Quadree Smith had seven points and nine rebounds. Ben Eke had seven points and eight rebounds.

 

The Commodores (10-1) play again in Marianna on Saturday against Lawson State.
