McGregor’s late three lifts GC past Spartanburg

NICEVILLE — The Gulf Coast men’s basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season on Friday with a dramatic 69-66 victory over No. 21 Spartanburg Methodist. With the win, the Commodores improved to 6-1 on the season.


The Commodores were routed 75-54 by No. 16 San Jacinto on Friday in Niceville, but a 3-pointer by Myles McGregor with 1 second on the clock Saturday gave them their first victory over a nationally-ranked team this year.


McGregor finished with 15 points on the night, with Will Robinson leading Gulf Coast with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Quadree Smith added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyree Gibson had 12 points and eight assists.


Gulf Coast returns home Thursday for the Visit Panama City Beach Thanksgiving Classic to take on Polk State at 5 p.m. The Commodores then play Walters State on Saturday at noon.
