Gulf Coast State to host conference tournament

Tyler Waldrep

Gulf Coast State (33-15, 10-8 Panhandle Conference) has secured the No. 1 seed in the conference softball tournament with two games remaining in the regular season.

Chipola (41-4, 16-1) finished first in conference play this season, giving the Indians an automatic bid to the 2019 NJCAA State Tournament in Sanford.

With the top seed comes the privelage of remaining at home. The conference tournament will get underway at Gulf Coast State’s own Joe Tom King Field on April 18-19. The winner of the playoff will join Chipola in the state tournament.

Pensacola State (27-18, 7-10) will kick things off against Northwest Florida State (23-24, 8-10 Panhandle Conference) at 5 p.m. on April 18. Gulf Coast State will play the winner of that game soon after at 7 p.m.

The Commodores will face that same team again the following day at 5 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. if the series remains split after two games.

Admission is free to Gulf Coast State and Florida State students and faculty with a valid campus ID. General Admission is $5 and those unable to attend can watch here: https://team1sports.com/gcathletics/.

The Commodores will return to action on Friday against Pensacola State before closing the regular season out against Northwest Florida State on Monday. Both games will begin at 4 p.m. at Joe Tom King Field.
