Taylor Lawhon adding five kills and a block.

Gulf Coast coach Kristian Robertson said she was mostly happy with her team’s effort in the opener, but it was clear that the Lady Commodores still had much work to do.

“I think we’re still a young team and need to find some consistency,” she said. “Dillard is a scrappy team with high energy and they get the ball up, but we managed to pull it out. We’re still trying to find the connection between setter and hitters now, but the defense was very good tonight.”

The Lady Commodores next make their home debut Thursday night at 6 p.m. against Florida Gateway College.
