Gulf Coast drops to 0-2 in Panhandle Conference

The Gulf Coast volleyball team opened its Panhandle Conference schedule over the weekend and suffered a pair of road defeats in Gainesville and Jacksonville.

 

The Lady Commodores dropped the league opener to Santa Fe in four sets Friday, falling 25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 25-18. They were on the road again Saturday against Florida State College at Jacksonville and fell in three sets: 25-17, 27-25, 25-18. Gulf Coast finished the day with a non-conference matchup with Palm Beach State and again fell 3-0: 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 to drop to 4-7 on the season. Gulf Coast has now lost four matches in a row and seven of its last nine.

 

Against Santa Fe, Mary Daniel led the Lady Commodores with 12 kills, followed by Madison Daniel with 10, and Madison Pickens with six. Jamie Clark was the assist leader with 22 to go with three kills, while Briahna Slater and Mary Daniel each had 25 digs. Madison Daniel added 18 digs and Madison Iferd had 13 digs and two ace serves. Taylor Lawhon had three kills and two blocks.

 

Mary Daniel and Madison Daniel tied for the kills lead against FSCJ with eight each, with Clark adding 26 assists, seven digs, and a kill. Slater had a team-best 14 digs and one kill. Shelby Freese contributed five kills and Pickens had three kills and four digs.

 

In the finale against Palm Beach State, Madison Daniel and Mary Daniel again led with seven kills apiece, followed by Lawhon with six kills, Freese with four, and Pickens with three. Clark led the way in assists with 25 and digs with 12. Slater added 11 digs, followed by Mary Daniel with 10, and

Madison Daniel with six.

 

The Lady Commodores will jump back into conference action Wednesday against Pensacola State in Pensacola. They will play their first home Panhandle Conference game Friday against St. Johns River.
