GC hires Choctaw’s Allen as new volleyball coach

PANAMA CITY — Gulf Coast has hired for Choctawhatchee coach Scott Allen to be its new head volleyball coach. He succeeds Kristian Robertson, who went 25-24 in two seasons as the Lady Commodores coach.


Allen compiled a .730 winning percentage in five seasons as the Indians’ head coach, leading the school to a 23-2 record and a 7A state championship in 2017. He also took Choctaw to a pair of elite eight finishes in the state tournament. Three times Allen was named the Northwest Florida Daily News Coach of the Year and earned Florida Dairy Farmers 7A Coach of the Year in 2017.


He has also coached the club team Emerald Coast Volleyball and won over 100 tournaments in five years, including four regional championships. Under Allen’s watch, Emerald Coast Volleyball placed third, fifth, ninth, and ninth at the AAU National Championship over the past five years.


Allen’s playing includes being a part of the Air Force volleyball team from 2001-2004 where he was a part of gold and silver medal winning teams in the Armed Forces Tournament. In 2003, he was selected to represent the USA in the CISM Military World Games in Catania, Italy.
