Gulf Coast’s men’s and women’s basketball teams claimed victories on Friday.

The unbeaten Lady Commodores improved to 4-0 with a 115-45 triumph over Fort Benning at the Billy Harrison Field House.

Leading Gulf Coast, 4-0, was Chelsey Gibson with 26 points. Mia Cooper contributed 17, Taylor Shaw and Tianah Alvarado each had 15 and Kiara Phillips had 11.

The men went on the road and downed Atlanta Metro 64-49 as Quavius Copeland had 18 points, Elliott Cole had 16 and DeMario Beck made a successful return to his home state with 11.

Anton Waters had 11 rebounds, Davaris McGowens six and Beck five for the Commodores.

“We played a pretty solid basketball game considering we didn’t figure on Atlanta traffic and didn’t get there until 19 minutes before game time,” GC coach Jay Powell said. “The guys went out and did a good job.”

Gulf Coast improved to 3-2.

Both teams return to action this afternoon. The Lady Commodores host Georgia Perimeter at 2 p.m. while the Commodores will play at Georgia Perimeter, also at 2 p.m.
