PANAMA CITY — Gulf Coast’s Shayla Bennett has been named to the 2017-18 NJCAA Women’s Basketball All-America First Team. It’s the latest in a long line of honors for the 5-foot-9 guard from Piedmont, S.C., who was also named a WBCA All-American, the WMBCA Two-Year College Player of the Year, and the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year.

LUBBOCK, Tex. — To get to Texas for the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, Gulf Coast had to overcome the loss of one 20-point per game scoring guard. In Friday night’s semifinal game against Tallahassee, it turned out that overcoming the loss of a second 20-point per game scoring guard was too much to ask even of the two-time defending national champions.
