Lady Commodores begin 2023 season in IL
On Sunday the Lady Commodores traveled back from Rockford, IL with 3 major wins under their belts after defeating #10 Kirkwood CC, #3 Parkland College, and #6 Grand Rapids.
The #15 Lady Commodores began the Opening Weekend Tournament vs. #10 Kirkwood CC, defeating the Lady Eagles 3-2. They turned around within a couple of hours to play #3 Parkland defeating the Lady Cobra’s 3-1.
24 hours after their first match, the Lady ‘Dores stepped onto the court to face the Lady Cavilers of #4 Johnson County. Johnson County was the Lady Commodores' only loss of the tournament as the Lady Cavilers took the win 3-1. Their final match of the tournament was against #6 Grand Rapids as the Lady Commodores won the match 3-1.
Sophomore, Izabela Denton had a great weekend as she accumulated 27 digs vs. #3 Parkland College and 25 digs vs. Grand Rapids, earning her a spot in the 25 Dig Club.
“It was a great first step on a long journey for this group. We still have so much to improve on, and these young ladies are fired up to get in the gym and get busy. Beating three top 10 teams in a 24-hour period is great, but it doesn’t mean anything if we are stagnant, so we are all excited to get back to work.” Scott Allen said.
The Lady Commodores will host the Lady Sun Chiefs of Coastal AL South on Thursday, August 24th at 5pm in the Billy Harrison Fieldhouse.
