GC Softball Head Coach earns 900th and 901st Career Wins

Thomas, began his coaching career at Virginia Tech University in 1996.  While at VT, Thomas guided his teams to eight NCAA Regional appearances, earning four consecutive berths from 2012-15 and 2005-2008 as the Hokies won back-to-back ACC-Tournament championships in 2007-2008, and during the 2008 season he took his team to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.  Coach Thomas was named 1999 Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year; 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2008, & 2012 VaSID State Coach of the Year; 2007, 2008, 2012 & 2013 NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.  While at Tech, Coach Thomas has had 17 winning or .500 seasons in 22 campaigns and accumulated an impressive 794-568 (0.583) overall record.  Thomas was the Head Coach of the Hokies for 23 years (1996-2019). 

Coach Thomas became the third coach of the Lady Commodores Softball Program during the 2019-2020 season.  During his first year, Thomas led his team to a record of 20-8 (0.714 winning %) but the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 virus.  

In 2020-21 season, the Lady Commodores had a record of 23-22 (0.511 winning %) overall and 8-12 in conference play.  His team excelled in the classroom with six players earning NJCAA All-Academic honors.  Sophomore outfielder, Summer Johnson earned NFCAA/NJCAA DI 1st team All-Region and NFCA NJCAA DI Second Team All-American honors. Six Lady Commodores earned All-Panhandle Conference honors. 

This past season (2021-22), Thomas guided his team to a 39-18 (0.684 winning %) overall and 8-12 in conference play.  Two Lady Commodores earned All-Academic honors, eight All-Panhandle Conference, Pitcher, GraceAnne Spears earned Panhandle Conference Pitcher of the Year, Spears also earned FCSAA All-State First-Team.
