Commodores earn third conference win
The Gulf Coast Commodores battled back from a four-run deficit to defeat Northwest Florida 15-7 on Tuesday in Panama City.
Northwest Florida jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a three-run home run. They added two more runs in the second to go up 5-1. The Commodores started to chip away in the third inning after Aiden Zagryn hit a two-run home run, and Lucas Badalato followed with a solo home run to cut the score to 4-5. Commodores took the lead in the fourth inning. An error brought in two runs, and A. Zagryn added an RBI single to make it 7-6. Northwest Florida tied the game at 7-7 in the fifth inning, but the Commodores quickly answered. In the bottom of the fifth, after Davis Avera hit a triple that scored three runs to break the tie. Zagryn added another RBI on a ground out to extend the lead to 11-7. Gulf Coast stayed in control the rest of the way to secure the win.
Jordan Martinez pitched five innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, while striking out eight and walking seven. Gavin Jerkins provided strong relief, throwing two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
Gulf Coast finished with 11 hits in the game. Avera led the team with four RBIs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. A. Zagryn and Avera each had two hits to lead the offense.
