Commodores 15-14 thriller over #2 Chipola
Panama City, FL-The Gulf Coast Commodores earned a thrilling 15-14 walk-off win over Chipola. Chipola struck first in the top of the first inning with an RBI single in the first. Gulf Coast answered right away in the bottom half of the inning when Carson Zagryn blasted a grand slam to left field to give the Commodores a 4-1 lead. The Commodores kept the offense going throughout the game, as Sam Brown added a solo home run in the third inning and in the fourth, the Commodores scored four more runs as Bray Touchstone and Davis Avera each drove in a run with doubles, and Carson Zagryn hit his second home run of the game. Andrew Johnson added a solo home run in the seventh inning, and Carson Zagryn struck again in the eighth with his third home run of the day, a two-run shot on a full count.
Chipola made things interesting in the top of the ninth, scoring seven runs to tie the game at 14-14. Chipola hit a three-run home run, adding an RBI single, and capped the rally with a three-run home run. The game was tied at 14 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Davis Avera came through with a clutch single, driving in the game-winning run and sealing the victory. Pierce Juhan picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. Nick Romeu also provided strong relief, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Ian Swanson started the game for Gulf Coast, allowing five runs over four innings. At the plate, the Commodores collected 14 hits. C. Zagryn led the way with three home runs and multiple hits, while Johnson also had three hits, and Avera added multiple hits, including the game-winning RBI.
