Commodores dominate Pensacola State in 16-0 run-rule victory
Pensacola, FL-The Gulf Coast Commodores put together a strong all-around performance to earn a 16-0 win over Pensacola State in five innings on Thursday.
Gulf Coast wasted no time getting on the board. The Commodores scored seven runs in the first inning to take early control of the game. Sam Brown started the scoring with a double, Bray Touchstone added a sacrifice fly, and Carson Zagryn followed with an RBI single. Gavin Howard delivered a key hit with a two-run single, and Andrew Johnson capped the inning with a two-run single to give Gulf Coast a 7-0 lead. Howard led the way at the plate, driving in four runs on two hits. He singled in the first inning to bring in two runs and later doubled in the second inning to score two more.
The Commodores stayed hot in the second inning, adding five runs on four hits to extend the lead to 12-0. Lucas Badalato singled to score a run, Anthony Saleeba drew a bases-loaded walk, and Howard came through again with a two-run double. Johnson added a sacrifice fly to finish off the scoring in the inning.
After a quiet third inning, Gulf Coast added four more runs in the fourth. The Commodores took advantage of walks and defensive miscues to push the lead to 16-0 and put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Ian Swanson turned in a dominant outing. He earned the win after allowing just one hit and no runs over five innings, while striking out seven and walked three.
Gulf Coast finished with nine hits in the game, with Johnson and Howard each collecting two. The Commodores also showed great patience at the plate, drawing 13 walks. Zagryn and D. Avera led the team with three walks each.
