Commodores use big innings to defeat Chipola 11-1 in six innings
Panama City, FL-The Gulf Coast State Commodores put together a strong all-around performance on Tuesday, defeating Chipola 11-1 in six innings at home.
Gulf Coast wasted no time getting on the board. In the bottom of the first inning, Sam Brown delivered a two-run home run to right field to give the Commodores an early lead. That momentum carried into the middle innings, where Gulf Coast broke the game open. The Commodores added five runs in the third inning, taking advantage of timely hitting and a Chipola error. Davis Avera drove in a run with a single, Carson Zagryn followed with a two-run single, and Gavin Howard added a sacrifice fly as Gulf Coast built a 7-0 lead.
Chipola scored its only run in the fourth inning, but Gulf Coast quickly responded. Lucas Badalato led off the fifth with a solo home run to extend the lead. Commodores put the game out of reach in the sixth after Bray Touchstone capped the scoring with a walk-off three-run home run to left field, pushing the final margin to 11-1.
On the mound, Jordan Martinez earned the win for Gulf Coast. He worked six innings, allowing just one unearned run on six hits while striking out five.
With the win, the Commodores secured a spot in the FCSAA DI Baseball Championship and will compete in next weekend's best-of-three regional series.
They will play their final regular season home game on Thursday, April 23rd on Frazier Field.
