Commodores finish season 28-8

Hutchinson, KS-The Commodores finish their historic run during the 2026 NJCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Commodores finished their season with an impressive Final Four appearance, the closest the Men's Basketball program has been at national title since 1972's Third Place finish. The Gulf Coast State College Commodores battled early but fell to the College of Southern Idaho, 70-82, in the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball National Semifinals.
Gulf Coast came out strong and set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead after a jumper from Jabari Quarterman. The Commodores stayed active on both ends, using strong rebounding and ball movement to take control midway through the first half. A 9-0 run helped Gulf Coast build a 28-19 lead with just over five minutes to play in the half. Trent Lincoln and Devontes Cobbs sparked the run, while Max Brown and Traevon Koch added key baskets during the stretch. The College of Southern Idaho responded late in the half, closing on a strong run. A three pointer in the final seconds gave CSI a 38-36 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles quickly built momentum, after a series of three pointers and transition baskets pushed their lead to double digits early in the period. Gulf Coast St. continued to fight, cutting the deficit to seven after back-to-back three pointers from Quarterman and Aiden Caulker. However, CSI answered again with timely shooting and extended the lead to as many as 18 points midway through the half. The Commodores made one final push late in the game with a three pointer from Cobbs brought Gulf Coast within seven at 59-66 with just over six minutes remaining. Despite the effort, the Commodores could not close the gap, as CSI controlled the final minutes from the free throw line to secure the 82-70 win.
Devontes Cobbs led the way with 22 points, knocking down five shots from beyond the arc. He also added three assists and a steal, helping lead the offense throughout the game. Trent Lincoln followed with 11 points and five assists, while also pulling down three rebounds and adding a steal. Jabari Quarterman added 10 points and seven rebounds, along with three steals, giving the Commodores strong energy on defense. Aiden Caulker chipped in nine points and three rebounds, while helping facilitate with three assists. Iyran Francis made his impact felt, finishing with seven rebounds to go along with strong defensive play. The Commodores also received key contributions from the bench. Alex Pissis had an efficient performance, scoring nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting, including a three-pointer. Max Brown added six points and two rebounds, while Traevon Koch contributed three points and two assists.
