Lady Commodores pull past Reid State 6-2
The Gulf Coast State Commodores earned a 6–2 win over Reid State on Saturday at Joe Tom King Field.
Gulf Coast State got on the scoreboard first in the opening inning. Ivey grounded out, allowing one run to score and giving the Commodores an early lead. Reid State answered in the top of the fourth to move ahead, 2–1. Reid State singled to center field to drive in a run, followed by a run-scoring single down the left field line.
The Lady Commodores quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth. Ainyah Stokes doubled to center field after a tough six-pitch at-bat, bringing in a run to tie the game at 2–2.
Gulf Coast State took control in the bottom of the sixth inning. An error allowed one run to score, Guzman doubled to bring home two more, and Henderson added a run with a triple to give the Commodores a 6–2 advantage.
Natalie Cole picked up the win, allowing just one hit and no runs over two innings while striking out two. Kallan Mercer started on the mound for the Lady Commodores and pitched five solid innings, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
