Panama City, FL-The Gulf Coast State College softball team delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Tallahassee State College with back-to-back 7-0 victories at Joe Tom King Field.
In game one, the Lady Commodores were led by a standout performance in the circle from Natalie Cole. Cole was in control from the start, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out multiple batters. She kept the Tallahassee State offense off balance all game long. Lady Commodores got on the board early in the first inning when Tylaya Lingo drove in a run with a groundout. The Lady Commodores added another run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Ainyah Stokes to extend the lead to 2-0. From there, the offense continued to build momentum. The Lady Commodores showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks and putting pressure on the defense. Lingo and Lilly Land each recorded two hits, while Stokes led the team with two RBIs. Gulf Coast also played clean defense, finishing the game without an error. They added runs late to secure the 7-0 win.
In game two, Gulf Coast stayed hot and wasted no time taking control. Pitcher Madison Laiche matched Cole's performance with a shutout of her own, leading the Commodores to another 7-0 victory.
The Lady Commodores exploded for six runs in the first inning. Land highlighted the inning with a two-run single, while the team capitalized on errors and strong base running to quickly build a big lead. A.lly Henderson also drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in a run, and the early offense proved to be more than enough. Gulf Coast added one more run in the third inning to make it 7-0. Lingo and Aasia Scerbo each collected two hits in the game, while Jaidyn Ivey and Land both drove in two runs to lead the offense.
