Lady Commodores move to 9-5 in conference play

Pensacola, FL- The Lady Commodores put together an exciting doubleheader sweep over Pensacola State, using strong hitting, smart base running, and solid pitching to earn two wins on the road.

In game one, Gulf Coast came out fast and never slowed down in a 10-0 victory. The Lady Commodores scored four runs in the first inning and kept building from there. Jaidyn Ivey led the way with a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three runs batted in.  Lilly Land and Aasia Scerbo each had strong games as well, collecting multiple hits. Scerbo added a solo home run, while the team finished with 12 hits and five walks.

In the circle, Natalie Cole was in full control. She threw a complete game, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out five. Gulf Coast State also played clean defense, not committing a single error in the win.

Game two was a different story early, as Gulf Coast fell behind 5-1. But the Commodores stayed calm and fought back.  The turning point came in the fifth inning when Gulf Coast St. scored six runs to take the lead. Lilly Land delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a double that brought in three runs.  The Lady Commdores kept the pressure on in the seventh inning, adding five more runs to pull away. Aasia Scerbo sparked the rally with a triple, and Tylaya Lingo added a two-run double.

Ally Henderson had an outstanding game, going 4-for-5 at the plate and scoring three runs. The Lady Commodores finished with 15 hits and used their speed on the bases, stealing four bags.

In relief, Kallan Mercer was strong in the circle. She threw four and two-thirds scoreless innings to earn the win and shut down Pensacola State late in the game.

The Lady Commodores host a doubleheader vs. Chipola on Saturday, April 18th at 1pm and 3pm on Joe Tom King Field.
