Lady Commodores finish season 22-8

Lake Charles, LA-The Lady Commodores battled hard but fell just short in a 68-71 loss to #6 Trinity Valley, last night.
The Lady Commodores got off to a strong start early in the first quarter, with Arianny Francisco De Oliveira knocked down a three-pointer to give the Lady Commodores an early lead, and the team stayed close through the opening minutes. Myla Benton added key points, helping keep the game within reach. Trinity Valley closed the first quarter on a run and took a 24-13 lead into the second. GC had trouble taking care of the ball and struggled to finish around the basket late in the quarter, which allowed Trinity Valley to build momentum.
In the second quarter, the Lady Commodores continued to fight with Hannah Carr and Yasmine Allen helping provide a spark off the bench, while Benton stayed active on both ends of the floor. Despite their effort, Trinity Valley extended its lead and went into halftime ahead 42-28.
Gulf Coast came out with more energy in the third quarter. The Lady Commodores began to find their rhythm on offense, with Graca Barbosa knocking down a three-pointer and Carr adding key points. The defense also stepped up, forcing turnovers and limiting second-chance opportunities. They cut into the deficit and trailed Trinity Valley 56-47 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Commodores made a strong push as Anjela Minja scored inside and controlled the boards, while Arianny Francisco De Oliveira added timely baskets to keep the game close. Gulf Coast trimmed the lead to just two points late in the game, showing great fight and determination. In the final moments, the Lady Commodores had a chance to tie the game, but a last-second shot would not fall. Gulf Coast continued to battle until the final buzzer but came up just short, 68-71.
The Lady Commodores showed resilience and effort throughout the game, battling back from a double-digit deficit and nearly completing the comeback.
Myla Benton led the way for Gulf Coast, scoring seven points on 3-of-7 shooting. She also added a rebound and stayed active on both ends of the floor. Arianny Francisco De Oliveira followed with five points, including a three-pointer, as she provided an early spark for the Lady Commodores. Kayla Hopson contributed on the defensive side with two rebounds and a steal, while also helping handle the ball despite facing pressure from the defense. Graca Barbosa added a rebound and an assist, helping move the offense, and Anjela Minja chipped in three rebounds, one assist, and one steal to go along with a point.
