Lady Commodores open conference season on the road
PANAMA CITY, Fla. – After kicking off the 2025 season in Rockford, Illinois, at the Opening Weekend Tournament, Gulf Coast volleyball returned with a 4-2 record. The team picked up impressive wins over two nationally ranked squads, #9 Iowa Central and #2 Johnson County.
Several players stood out during the tournament. Sophomore PIN Danna Aguilera led the team with 73 kills, a .280 hitting percentage, 13 service aces, 96 receptions, 77 digs, 90 points, and seven total blocks across 22 sets. Sophomore setter Melany Salazar had 136 assists, seven service aces, a .389 hitting percentage, and 42 digs in 20 sets. Sophomore defensive specialist Miliani Avila-Bauzo recorded 100 receptions and 55 digs. Freshman PIN Isabella Lopez tallied 45 kills, a .271 hitting percentage, and eight blocks, while freshman PIN Hannah Ottley added 25 kills, a .211 hitting percentage, nine blocks, and 34 points. Sophomore PIN Kyra Reynolds contributed 14 total blocks, and freshman defensive specialist Keira Mathis finished with 52 digs and 58 receptions.
The team looks to continue its strong start as it enters the 2025 conference season. The first match is on the road against St. Petersburg College (1-3) on Friday, September 5, at 6 p.m. EST in St. Petersburg, Florida. On Saturday, September 6, they face State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (0-0) at * 2 p.m. EST in Bradenton, Florida. The weekend concludes in New Port Richey against Pasco-Hernando (2-5) on Sunday, September 7, at 11 a.m. EST.

Gulf Coast will host its home opener weekend beginning Thursday, September 11, against South Florida State College at 6 p.m., followed by Palm Beach State at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 12. The weekend finishes with a 1 p.m. match against Indian River State College on Saturday, September 13. All home games will be played in the Billy Harrison Fieldhouse.
